In the beginning, women were drummers. This truth has been scientifically traced all the way back through the Neolithic period, and logic tells us that women began drumming even earlier, during the Paleolithic. Drumming was always done with intention. It was a highly ritualized expression used to honor the Goddess, the Divine Feminine Mother of All That Is, and bring upon a transcendent state through which to connect with these individual and collective benevolent energies for insight into developing higher consciousness.
As time went on, patriarchial dominance proliferated throughout the world and the Goddess was seen as a threat to this rising hunger for power and domination. The tradition of women drumming was eventually prohibited, and it became a practice that was only allowed by men.
There has been an incremental reclaiming of the Goddess over the past many years. She was never truly lost, just submerged and hidden away for secret celebration so that her truth could be preserved. The time has come to fully embrace the Divine Feminine. It is this energy which will bring peace upon the world.
The Golden Temple Society Drumming Circle meets soon. Please respond below to let us know of your interest. We will gather Saturday, April 1st, 2017, in the San Francisco East-Bay Area. (Location TBA).
